EDUCATION

Shrutiji is a graduate of Mumbai University with languages (Marathi and English). She received the Sangeet Visharad from Akhila Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal with distinction. She did her Master’s degree in Music from SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai, with Distinction, winning the Bhaskarbua Bakhale Prize.

She was initiated into music and groomed by her father, Pt. Wamanrao Sadolikar, a disciple of Pt. Vishnu Digambar Paluskar and Ustad Alladiya Khan (Founder of the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana) and his son Ustad Bhurji Khan. Shrutiji trained under Ustad Gulubhai Jasdanwalla, renowned for his repository of rare compositions and complex ragas of the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana for 12 years. Shrutiji continued to learn from Ustad Bhurji Khan’s son, Ustad Azizuddin Khan, till his demise in August 2011.

She is a ‘Top Grade’ artist of Akashwani (All India Radio) and Doordarshan (TV).

 

SCHOLARSHIPS

Shrutiji’s achievements include The Bhulabhai Memorial Institute Scholarship, (Mumbai) 1975; Kesarbai Kerkar Scholarship (National Centre for the Performing Arts), Mumbai 1976-78; The Homi Bhabha Fellowship (National Centre for the Performing Arts), Mumbai 1994-96.

Presently the Vice Chancellor of Bhatkhande Music Institute Deemed University, Lucknow, Shrutiji is a much sought after concert artist. She is known as a scholar musician.

ASSIGNMENTS

  1. 1.     Has been visiting professor at the Rotterdams Conservatorium in Netherlands.
  2. 2.     Guru at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata.
  3. 3.     Visiting professor at the Department of Music, SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai.
  4. 4.     Professor in the Department of Music, University of Mumbai.
  5. 5.     Guide for many research students for their PhD in Music.
  6. 6.     Delivered lecture-demonstrations on various aspects of Indian Classical Music in many schools and universities in India;
  7. 7.     She has also toured for concerts and delivering lectures on music in the UK, USA, Canada, France, Switzerland, Scotland, Germany, Mauritius, UAE, Muscat, Kuwait, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Australia, Russia etc.
  8. 8.     Still continues to produce research based thematic programs on various aspects of Indian culture and music.
  9. 9.     Has been contributing to various research journals and magazines by way of written articles on various subjects regarding Indian Classical Music and Performing Arts.

10.Her educational CD, ‘The Raga Guide’, was produced and marketed by Nimbus Records, UK.

11. She has been recorded by many prestigious record companies in and out of India.

12.As a tribute to her father, Shrutiji revived the musical play SANGEET TULSIDAS after 60 years (Pt. Wamanraoji had played the protagonist in the play in 1930)in 2001. She played the protagonist in the play specially for E TV Marathi channel.

13.As producer-music director- coordinator, Shrutiji presented the Marathi musical play SANGEET SAMSHAY KALLOL at the WORLD MUSIC THEATRE FESTIVAL in Netherlands, April 1999.

AWARDS

Shrutiji has received a large number of prizes and awards which include the prestigiousAwardee of Navashakti Sanman (Mumbai), Swaryogini Prabha Atre Puraskar (Pune),  Maharashtrache Mankari (Icons ofMaharashtra) by  by C.B.D. Foundation in Mumbai 2013Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Music, New Delhi 2011; The Sangeet Shiromani Award by Kashi Sangeet Samaj, Banaras, 2008; The Shanmukha Sangeet Shiromani Award by Shanmukhanand Sangeet Sabha, Mumbai, 2002. Shrutiji was awarded the Gopinath Savkar Prize, Talpade Memorial Prize and Pendharkar Prize forbest production, best direction and best music directionfor the play ‘Sangeet Tulsidas’ in 2001. She received the prestigious Dagar Gharana Sanman, from the Maharana Mewar Foundation, Udaipur, 1998, and many others.

REMARKABLE RECORDINGS

Shrutiji has contributed to Indian Classical Music by recording ‘Ragas of the Day’ (Music Today), ‘Bhaktimala’ (Music Today and T-Series), ‘Bhaktivarsha’, ‘Gayaki, Raga and Tala’, ‘Traditional Thumris’, ‘Soz-e-Dil’ (Ghazal), (BMG Crescendo). She is perhaps the only artist in India who has performed and recorded music in such a vast variety of Talas.

PERFORMANCES

During her career of over 40 years as a performing artiste, among the many  noteworthy performances a few are:-

2. The INDIA FESTIVAL in Russia, September 2009;

3. The prestigious EDINBURGH FESTIVAL – THE NIGHT RAGA, August 2002;

4.THE INTERNATIONAL DEVOTIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL, UK, 2000.

5.Vishnu Digambar Sangeet Sammelan New Delhi.

6. Dover Lane Music Conference Kolkata.

7. Golden Greats – ITC SRA Kolkata.

8. Many Radio Sangeet Sammelans at various places in India.

9. Many Doordarshan Concerts, Mumbai, Bhopal, Delhi etc.

10. Shrutiji has contributed to the making of the Jana Gana Mana CD produced by Bharatbala Productions, released on August 15, 2000.

11. Shrutiji has contributed as an anchor and as actor in the documentaries on the life of Pt. D.V. Paluskar.

12. She has lent her voice to music plays, films, TV serials and signature tunes of many major TV channels.

Shrutiji performs all forms of Indian Classical and Light Classical Music;

Her voice was selected as one ofthe most remarkable voices of 9 female singers from all over the world for the CD, GIFTED WOMEN OF THE WORLD, released and marketed by the NOA PERFUME, Paris.

She has participated in the coveted thematic programs produced by the National Centre for the Performing Arts, Mumbai, like Baithaki chi Lavni, Devgaani, Shraavan, Maanapaman chi 75 varshe, etc.

Shrutiji is a member of advisary committees of many Cultural organisations and Govt. bodies.

FUTURE PLANS

Shrutiji has undertaken the making of a Documentary Film, ‘Abbaji Ki Kahani’, a tribute to Sangeet Samrat, Ustad Alladiya Khan.

She has also penned her father’s autobiography, soon to be published.

Her research papers, lectures and articles are soon to be published in book form.
